Home → EstiMate Version 1 → How Do I... → Moving The Data Folder To A Network Drive
Yes, you can, but several provisions must be followed and you must take some precautions in order not to introduce data corruption. The method for moving the data folder is twofold:
Step One: Relocate The Data Folder
1 Copy the EstiMate data folder (usually c:program filesestimatedata) to the location where you want it to reside, either on the local machine or on a network server. This example assumes you will keep the folder name 'Data'.
Step Two: Direct EstiMate where to find the data.
1. File > Network Setup.
2. Enter the full path to the data on the host machine. Example: \hostnamecprogram filesestimatedata. Alternatively you can click the 'Select...' link to open a find box and locate your data folder.
3. Click OK on the Network Setup screen.
Step Three: Take the following precaution in using EstiMate on a network.
1. Click Management->Configure EstiMate and click on the Preferences tab.
2. Check the box marked 'Perform a complete validation of data each time EstiMate shuts down.' This makes sure the data is carefully maintained in order to minimize the chance of corruption.
Remember that it is important for the server machine to be up and running each time you run EstiMate, or the software will complain mightily. :)
